1 The effects it has on a nursing staff is quite complex and affects the nurses emotionally.But nurses working in psychiatric unit makes them embrace the situation as the acceptance of suicide is the patients personal choice.

i would give more attention who attempted suicide There are chances that h might commit suicide again and needs close monitoring of the patients safety needs.

2 Risk factors for suicide are

Age-males above 40 years of age and females above 55 years of age

Sex-Men have greater risk of completed suicide .suicide is 3 times more common in men than in women.

Being unmarried,divorced,widowed.

Having a definite suicidal plan

History of prevvious suicidal attempts.

b Protective factors are

Psychiatric disorders

  • Major depression
  • Schizophrenia
  • Drug or alcohol abuse
  • Dementia
  • Delirium
  • Personality disorder.

Physical disorders

  • Patients with incurable or painful physical disorders like,cancer and AIDS.

Psychosocial Factors

  • Failure in examination.
  • Dowry difficulties
  • Marital difficulties.
  • Loss of loved object.
  • Isolation and alienation from social groups.
  • Financial and occupational difficulties.
