          * Melanin is a effective absorbent of light and it can dissipate most of the UV radiation

      which is absorbed due to this characterstics melanin help to protect skin cells from UV rays

          and prevent damage of DNA of skin cells which leads to cancer.

          * But over exposure of UV rays result in oxidization of melanin and DNA damage occur in the

             skin cells leads to skin cancer.(eg; Malignant melanoma)
