a) The statement is false. The preliminary estimates are based on detailed information as compared to screening estimates. For example consider the cost estimates for a proposed bridge across a river. A screening estimate is made for each of the potential alternatives, such as a tied arch bridge or a cantilever truss bridge. As the bridge type is selected, a preliminary estimate is made on the basis of the layout of the selected bridge form on the basis of the preliminary or conceptual design.Here we can see the screening estimate was just based on deciding the type of design using past data while making a preliminary estimate we use the current technological data associated with that design and consider all factors.

b) The various types of Design estimates are as follows -
