1. You are caring for a client who is experiencing severe anxiety. Think about a time in your life when you have experienced anxiety.

Define anxiety.

What are your common symptoms when anxious? Pay attention to your body response and connect the response to the feeling of anxiety. Classify these as cognitive, affective, physiologic, or behavioral.

How is your response to anxiety similar and different when the anxiety is related to your personal life and to your experience as a nursing student?

What techniques do you use to reduce your own anxiety? Do they work? Do you use several techniques or only a few? Do you smoke, drink, or use food to reduce your anxiety?

2. Alex is a 54-year-old man who has been suffering from extreme anxiety after being robbed by a man at gun point. He does not understand how anxiety results from being robbed.

Discuss the proposed etiology for Anxiety Disorders (PTSD) with Alex.

Compare and contrast acute stress disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Describe the effects anxiety can have on sensation, cognition, and verbal ability.

3. Marsha is a 38-year-old woman who has been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. She has little knowledge about anxiety and believes she is alone in her diagnosis. She is also curious about the different treatment options available to treat anxiety.

Explain to Marsha what is meant by the term anxiety disorder.

To help her understand she is not alone, discuss the prevalence of anxiety disorders with Marsha.

Explain one of the cognitive-behavioral therapies used to treat anxiety.

Marsha’s psychiatrist has decided to place her on medication. What types of medications can be used to treat anxiety? Choose one of these medications and list client education you would want to provide to a client.

Answer: Anxiety is a condition of the where there is excessive stress or hyper mental condition. It can lead into disease if exceeds more than a limit. Anxiety is daily stressed situation one can face within himself.

The cognitive anxiety is a mental manifestation where brain procees particular situation and fear where as affective anxiety is a bipolar disorder of brain where mood swings also takes place. Most of the people suffers from this kind of anxiety such as depression as well as mood swings. Physiological anxiety occurs when the person is anxious and the symptoms started to be shown on the body or appearing physical such as on face, face becomes red, or eyes swelling etc.

The daily life anxiety occurs that is very random and one can manage themselves. But taking care of the patient who suffers from the cognitive anxiety, in which sometimes they have suicidal behaviour. This becomes difficult to handle as so much counseling and stress release therapy has to be given to the person. Antidepressants medication can be given to the patient who are highly needed.

Stress release therapy works for everyone who is in initial stage of anxiety. Meditation is one of them, diverting our mind from the stress situation and thinking about the solution of the problem may help to reduce the anxiety.
