I disagree with the statement and believe that P2P lending can exist and operate independently.

P2P lending is peer to peer lending and allows individuals to get loans directly from other individuals. In such a transaction financial institutions are not required as a middleman. The reason why P2P lending will continue to exist and operate independently is because of its operational structure. As middleman is avoided costs are optimized and hence direct peer to peer lending becomes attractive as a business model. Because lenders are able to get better return on their amounts when compared to bank savings or CD offers many people will be attracted to this platform and this platform will continue to grow and thrive as an independent system.
