Formula to calculate Flow rate

Flow rate= Total volume ×15÷Total time to be administered ×60

●Given

Amiodarone 1mg/minute

so in 1 minute It will be 60 mg

in 6 hours it will be 360 mg

There is mixture of 900 mg in 500 ml D5W

IIn a simple way to calculate 250 ml =450 mg

then ?=360 mg

360×250÷450= 200 ml

Flow rate =Total volume ×15÷6×60

=200×15÷6×60=8.3

The flow rate eill be 8 drops / minute for 6 hour and

200×15÷1×60= 50 drops per hour

●weight 330 pound=149.6 kg

drip rate 0.15mcg/kg/min

so 149.6 kg =22.44 or 22 mcg/kg/min

in 1 hour it will be 22×60=1320mcg

when 50cc=6000mcg Epinephrine (6mg)

than 1320=?

1320×50÷6000=11

It will be11cc

no flow rate is equal to

11×15÷1×60

=2.75 or 3 drops per hour

●Given

to be administered 500 units in 1 hour

available 25000 units in 500cc

when when 25000 unit=500cc

then 500 units=??

500×500%25000

=10 cc to be administered in a hour

now 10×15÷1×60=2.5 or 3 drops per hour

●Nitroglycerine 5mcg/min to be administered

Available 200 mg in 250 cc(20000mcg microgram in 250 cc)

200000mcg=250cc

5mcg=?

250×5÷200000=0.006cc

now

FR= 0.006×15÷1×60

=0.0001 drops per hour.

● Given

available 125mg in 100cc NS

15mg=?

100×15÷125=12 cc

To be transfused 15mg/hour

FR=12×15÷1÷60

=3 drops per mminute.
