Arc welding is more susceptible to mechanical fracture because welding depends on

1) Fusion in the side wall

2) Fusion between material

3) Fusion at the root of the material

When all these factors are considered,In Arc welding there is high chance of fracture when compared to other fusion welds.

There are also certain precautions to be taken while welding to prevent from fracture such as arc length, angle of electrode, and also from overheating which leads to more heat affected zone ultimately result in failure.
