1. Radiation is the transmission of energy through space and matter. Quality assurance is a plan of action to ensure that a diagnostic X-ray will produce consistent, high-quality images with a minimum of exposure to patients and personnel. The dental professional should maintain adequate quality assurance because the main purpose of this quality assurance is to provide adequate protection to the life, health and safety to all individuals subject to exposure to radiation. It is used to maintain a high standards of quality assurance by reducing the impact on exposure to radiation. Quality assurance protocols should be developed and followed for assessing the integrity of the a) X-ray machine b) image quality c) darkroom,films,processing d) training and e) audit to reduce the risk to radiation.

2.PURPOSES: The main purpose is to reduce the risk or to eradicate the risk completely to radiation.

PROCEDURES:

EQUIPMENT OPERATION: It is necessary to ensure that the dental X-ray and film processors are functioning properly for quality management. This could be help to replace or repair the equipment if needed.

BASELINE PERFORMANCE: It is used to detect any changes in equipment performance.
