LEVOTHYROXINE
Generic name: Levothyroxine
Dose
Primary hypothyroidism
Initial dose: 1.6 mcg/kg orally once a day
Increase the dose to 12.5- 25 mcg every 4 to 6 weeks until clinically euthyroid and TSH returns to normal.
For TSH suppression
A dose more than 2 mcg/kg orally once a day is given
For Myxedema coma
Parenteral Formulation:
-Initial loading dose: 300 to 500 mcg IV once
-Maintenance dose: 50 to 100 mcg IV once a day until patient can
tolerate oral form of drug
