Recent optical devices being prepared are optical switching circuit, multi-channel optical communication, slow-light and stored light devices. One of the atomic coherence and quantum interference effect is electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) which reduces single photon absorption of probe field in the atomic medium and enhances non-linear processes. This EIT exhibits very narrow line width (of sub natural line width order ) and this reduces the group velocity of probe field in the atomic medium. Multiple EIT can be produced by applying magnetic field which provides multiple frequency to provide slow light and hence can be used for multi-channel optical communication. With the application of additional coupling field in the EIT system, narrow transparency converts into narrow absorption and this features are used in optical switching devices.
