Like most manufactured products, electronics are produced using a variety of raw materials, many of which are relatively rare and/or expensive. In some cases, the value of these materials leads to unethical and illegal practices, particularly in regions of the world where governmental control is limited. Many companies in the United States go to great lengths to investigate the practices of their suppliers and sub-suppliers in order to be responsible global citizens, but many small companies do not have the resources to do so, and furthermore practices considered unethical here may be considered acceptable in other parts of the world. In this assignment, students will research and discuss some of the "conflict resources" relevant to the electronics industry.

General Requirements:

Directions: Many of the raw materials used in the design and manufacture of modern consumer products are commonly obtained under conditions unfavorable to human flourishing. This is especially true for electronics, where some of the preferred materials come from areas of the world where genocide and enslavement of conquered groups occur.

Write a research paper on the supply chain ethics pertaining to the manufacturing of electronic devices. Cite at least three examples of "conflict resources" and discuss why they are used, whether or not viable alternatives exist, and their overall societal impact.

Consider and discuss the difficulties that manufacturers face in tracking the activities of their vendors as they attempt to comply with government regulations.

Finally, discuss the impact on human value and ethics that an engineer should consider before using "conflict resources," from the perspective of the Christian worldview.

Initially the concern stated in the assignment talks about the illegal and unethical practices of expensive raw materials onto which many American companies has investigated. So if you need information regarding such practices, you can browse the internet and search for related news posted for such issues.

the issue would definately involve government investigation which would lead to some results. The results eventuallywould be recorded and stored safely(Some may be confidential also). Gaining access to such records can give you enough information to complete the research work provided in the assignment.

you can always have option to search for similar research work done previously on similar grounds but it is highly recommenable to have information of your own for which you need to do some digging yourself.
