DEFINITION -Personal protective equipment is an equipment used to protect the body from hazard,blood or blood products spill or spread of infection in hospital.

PPE EQUIPMENT:-

INDICATIONS -

1. Protect our body to prevent spill of body fluids
2. To avoid crossing of infection from one person to other
3. To ensure safe health for staff and patient
4. To do the procedure sterile and clean
5. To avoid air borne or contact infection
6. To follow the sterile precautions
7. To avoid spread of out side hospital infection from visitors to the patients

DESCRIPTION-

1.Gown or apron,shoe covers:-GOWNS are of 2 types which can be used by sterilizing them and other are disposable,these gowns can be used at the time of doing any procedures or surgeries.Shoe covers are also used in the sterile or clean areas like ICU,O.T,Procedure rooms.

• These are often used during surgery to protect you and the patient.
• They are also used during surgery to protect you when you work with bodily fluids.
• Visitors wear gowns if they are visiting a person who is in isolation due to an illness that can be easily sprea

2.gloves:-They are used to protect your hands from spread of infection from blood or other liquids.

3.Googles:-They are mainly used at the surgery to prevent spill of fluids on eyes.

4.Face mask:-The normal face masks are used at normal hospital settings and lab areas,where as there are N-95 masks which are used to prevent airborne diseases mainly isolated areas.

5.Hand hygiene:-It is fore most method used before any procedure or surgery or before entering towards the patient and after touching the patient and coming from them.All times we can not do the hand wash so,there is other method to keep our hands clean by HAND RUB.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES-

• We can have good and safe health
• we can stop spreading of diseases
• We can provide clean environment
• The patients can not acquire other diseases from current disease
• We can perform sterile procedures and decrease the rate of infection

EVALUATION-

By providing or using this PPE we can evaluate that spreading chance of disease will be reduced and now a days all hospitals are following PPE very strictly.The implementation of PPE in every hospital setting gained more results and free of infection spreading and infection control.

CLIENT EDUCATION:-

• Educate the client or patient to use PPE in proper way
• Educate guide lines
• Educate the PPE tecqniques and for hand hygiene (soaps,alcohol based products)
• Donning (Choosing appropriate PPE, maintaining sterile environment, replacing compromised PPE)
• Removal (procedure gloves, goggles, apron, mask, avoiding cross contamination)
• Disposal (OSHA guidelines)

POTENTIAL COMPLICATIONS

There wont be more complications in using PPE but not using properly can show some problems

• Not using proper size of the aprons or Gowns may have spill on our body or size provides discomfort
• tearing of gloves may contact infection
• not using appropriate mask can spread airborn disease
• improper hand hygiene can lead to cross infection easily
