Oxygen therapies:
Indication:
Nasal cannula
Hypoxemic respiratory failure, acute pulmonary edema, and a patient who are not intubated
simple mask
When inadequate oxygen in the case of hypoxia, tachycardia, dyspnea, and hypertension
Partial rebreather
Physical trauma, smoke inhalation, carbon monoxide poisoning
Venturi face mask:
Patient with COPD when o2 titrated and co2 retention
Oxygen regulator
patient with chronic respiratory disease to maintain pao2 level
Oxygen humidification
When the patient has difficulty expectorating viscous secretions
Non-rebreather mask
In the case of carbon monoxide poisoning, to target high concentration oxygen and in case of chronic airway obstruction
Expected outcome:
-Increase energy level by supplemental oxygen to promote normal breathing function, improve normal cell metabolism, improve pao2 and sao2 level.
Evaluation:
-to evaluate pao2/fi02 level
-provide satisfactory o2 and co2 values
-measure positive and expiratory pressure
-measure respiratory frequency and blood gas
Nursing intervention:
-Assess patient airway and patient position frequently
-Check hourly o2 flow rates, patency of tubes and humidity
-Check patient vital signs hourly including o2 saturation
-Check patient hyperventilation level
