Can anyone pick one and give me an example?

This Internet assignment consists of four choices. Choose two of the four choices that you would like to learn more about. Each chosen part of this Internet assignment is worth a possible 20 points. So, the Internet assignment is worth a total of 40 possible points (20 points for each choice you have selected and written about). Your response to each chosen assignment should be a minimum of 10 complete sentences.

I recommend that you compose your two chosen assignments in a word document before you select this assignment link. When you are ready to complete your Internet assignment, select the name of the assignment above; then copy and paste your work from the word document into the text box that appears.

CHOICE 1- Ethics.

The book discusses 4 guidelines addressed by the American Psychological Association (APA): informed consent, confidentiality, debriefing, and deception. Of these four, which do you think is the most important and why? When, if ever, should research ethics be violated? Does the data ever justify the means? Or stated another way, is there ever a time that conducting unethical research is okay because of the scientific knowledge gained? Your post should include answers to the above questions. Also, visit a website about psychological research ethics and include some information about how psychologists attempt to ensure their research meets ethical guidelines.  You should also include a website from where you obtained your information.

CHOICE 2- Perspectives on Psychology.

Chapter 1 provides you with an introduction to some of the pioneers of psychology and the major perspectives of current psychological theory. Pick one of the major perspectives and a psychologist who supports that perspective. Your post should describe both the theoretical perspective and the research of the psychologist that you chose. What was your reason for choosing the theoretical perspective? Does this perspective seem relevant today? How does the psychologist’s work support the theory? Make sure that your response is the minimum of 10 complete sentences. You should also include a website address from where you obtained your information.

CHOICE 3- Psychology's Roots.

Psychology actually evolved out of philosophy. Western philosophy grew in ancient Greece. If you would like to learn more about this, then choose one of these early philosophers: Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, or Descartes. Research the philosopher and answer the following questions: What is this philosopher's theoretical viewpoint about philosophy? How has this philosophy have influenced modern psychological theory? Which of the psychological perspectives do you think is most influenced by this philosopher? Make sure your response is a minimum of ten complete sentences. You should also include a website from where you obtained your information.

CHOICE 4- The Scientific Approach.

The scientific approach is vital to the human race. We can accept something as a fact, if it has been proven scientifically. The scientific method has very specific steps: 1. Observing some phenomenon; 2. Formulating a hypothesis and making predictions; 3. Testing through empirical research; 4. Drawing conclusions; 5. Evaluating conclusions. What topic would you like to research? How would researching this topic benefit society? What type of research do you think would work best with this topic? Why would you choose this method over another?  Be sure to write at least 10 complete sentences and include any sources you used. Make sure that your response is a minimum of 10 complete sentences. Use your imagination!

Answer #1

Choice 1

Although all the four guidelines provided by the APA is very important and no one code can be valued over another but for me the most important one will be informed consent .

Whenever possible researcher should get the consent of participants. When conducting the research itit is the duty of researcher to first ask the participant whether they are interested in taking part in it and a simple “Yes” is not sufficient. They should have full knowledge of what research is and what they are agreeing to.

Before the study begins the researcher must outline to the participants what the research is about, and then ask their consent to take part. An adult is surely able to give the consent to participate in a study. On other hand Parents of children those who will be part of research can also provide consent to allow their children to participate in a study.

In order that consent be ‘informed’, consent forms may need to be accompanied by an information sheet for participants setting out information about the proposed study along with details about the investigators and how they can be contacted.

Conducting the unethical research can never be justified in any circumstances of the research but again if we started debating on this topic there are many things that we should consider like suppose we take the informed consent, we make sure about confidentiality and debriefing but what about the situation in which we put the participant where we don’t have any idea that how it is going to effect him further after the research, suppose he/she do not contact you but there arise some problem with them, than who is going to be responsible for it.

Psychologists should make sure that rights and well being must be incorporated and participants are allowed to withdraw from the studies as soon as they feel uncomfortable in it. participants are protected from every kind of risks in the study.

Choice -2

The perspective I choose is psychodynamic perspective. Sigmund Freud was pioneer of this perspective. Freud’s theories were psychoanalytic, whereas the term ‘psychodynamic’ refers to both his theories and those of his followers. Freud’s psychoanalysis is both a theory and therapy. the psychodynamic perspective emphasizes unconscious psychological processes (for example, wishes and fears of which we’re not fully aware), and contends that childhood experiences are crucial in shaping adult personality. The psychodynamic perspective has evolved considerably since Freud’s time, and now includes innovative new approaches such as object relations theory and neuropsychoanalysis. Some psychodynamic concepts have held up well to empirical scrutiny while others have not, and aspects of the theory remain controversial, but the psychodynamic perspective continues to influence many different areas of contemporary psychology.

Psychodynamic theory explains personality in terms of unconscious psychological processes that is desires and threats rooted in childhood experiences which are significant in shaping personality. Psychodynamic theory is mostly linked with the work of Sigmund Freud, and with psychoanalysis, a type of psychotherapy that attempts to explore the patient’s unconscious thoughts and emotions so that the person is better able to understand himself or herself.

Although once this was very popular it is far less common in present scenario. Its modern version that is psychoanalysis is more concerned about development of self and other motivating factors behind behaviour and not only on sexual motivations.
