Leininger’s theory of Culture Care Diversity:
Leininger’s middle-range theory regards the concept of transcultural nursing developed by Madeleine Leininger. Leininger proposed the cultural care theory which states that nursing discipline should provide care that is culturally congruent and is suited to an individual's or an institution's cultural belief, values, and lifestyles. Caring is a dominant concept in nursing practice and providing care that addresses the cultural needs of a patient allows for a more trusting and understanding nurse-patient relationship.
Cultural care, according to the Leiningers theory, deals with the cultural elements of a patient. It does not concern the promotion of continuity of the nurses to the patient searching and learning the intravenous therapy in a home setting is a complete therapeutic and academic procedure.
Leininger’s theory reinforces exploring and learning the true meaning of care for culture and uses the theory of culture care to provide patient-centered care. Leiningers theory for cultural care deals with the diversity of cultural elements of the patients. It is not associated with the improvement of technical skills of a graduate nurse. Family nurse practitioners (FNP) encounter patients from many different cultures. Having an understanding of cultural diversity allows for an FNP to better care for a wide-variety of patients. Patient-centered care is an important aspect in advanced nursing practice.
