NURSING THEORY

Nursing theory gives direction as to what nursing care is effective and in what way. Nursing theories help in setting up of practice. which involves nursing education, research and clinical practice. If we can explain nursing theory best explains we are truly a nurse.

Grand Theory

General aspects of nature and goals of nursing. Theories at this level are designed for practice and nor for empirical testing.This limits the theory in explaining in certain situations.

Mid-range nursing theories

These are narrower in scope than grand theory and provides a bridge between grand theory and nursing practice. These present concept and abstraction to guide research based nursing practice. These theories are simple, straightforward and general. A wide range of nursing issues are addressed by middle range theories.

Nursing practice theories

These are the most limited scope and addresses only certain nursing issues. The capacity of these theory is very limited and narrow.
