  3. Inter -personal group therapy.
  4. Support & Self help group

2. Explain the value the group work might bring to clients with mental health problems. Be thorough.

Support & self-help groups are structured for the purpose of providing clients with the opportunity to maintain or enhance personal & social functioning through cooperation & shared the understanding of life's challenges. One of the important functions of such groups is to demonstrate universality to individuals, that they are not alone in having a particular problem. Group members can help one another by telling their stories & providing alternative ways to look at and resolve problems.

Democratic leader- support extensive group interaction in problem-solving.

Techniques you might use to motivate someone to attend and participate in a therapeutic group:

  1. Know the audience.
  2. Clarify expectations for the meeting and the role of the group in the decision(s) to be made.
  3. Try to involve as many people, or representatives of as many groups, as possible.
  4. Utilize pre-existing relationships within the group to communicate information since information passed through familiar channels is often most effective.
  5. Be conscious of verbal and non-verbal means of participation. Appreciate non-linguistic means of communication such as disruptive behavior, nods of approval, or applause.
  6. Recognize different forms of participating. Work to include all voices—give everyone a chance to speak, and respect different methods for making an argument.
  7. Make sure all viewpoints are represented. Solicit ideas from the different individuals involved in the discussion.
