Answer #1

Cultural competency is highly crucial aspects in nursing care. It enables the professionals to deliver competent care and patient's to achieve satisfactory services. One such incident is explained here where cultural competency is explained-

A Young female aged 34 years old came to the emergency department with her 8 years old boy. The boy was not well and complaint of severe abdominal pain. As the duo was from an African speaking culture they were not very well aware of the English language, but the kid attended the school and had some basic knowledge of the language. While the staff nurse and other [professionals communicated with the mother she was not able to understand them well, and the kid was in such a sever pain that he could not translate it appropriately. One of the registered emergency department nurse was well acquainted with the language and helped the nurse in-charge to communicate and assess and examine the patient well. This also enhances the trust within the mother and the kid and also helped the staff to create a rapport with them. If the main in-charge nurse was acquainted with the cultural differences this issue could have been resolved in different manner, but collaborative working is the key to nursing care and this incident depicts better quality care.
