Answer #1

1. The client receives 50ml/hr of potassium chloride.

desired dose: 2mEq/hr
available concentration: 40 mEq (units) per 1000 mL (volume)

(desired dose ÷ available concentration (units)) × available concentration (volume) = mL per desired dose
(2 mEq ÷ 40 mEq) × 1000 mL = 0.05 × 1000 mL = 50mL/hr

2.40 meq÷1000ml=x meq÷800ml

Ratio and proportion method

40×800=1000x

x=32000/1000

x=32meq remaining in 800ml.

40-32=8 meq

Thus the client receives 8meq of kcl.

3.A.The client receives200 ml/hr of potassium chloride.

desired dose: 8 meq/hr
available concentration: 40 meq (units) per 1000 mL of NS(volume)

(desired dose ÷ available concentration (units)) × available concentration (volume) = mL per desired dose
(8meq÷ 40 meq) × 1000 mL = 0.2× 1000 mL = 200 mL

4.40 meq÷1000=x meq÷150 ml

Ratio and proportion method

40×150=1000 x

x=6000÷1000

x=6 meq remaining in 150ml.

40-6=34meq.

Thus the client receives 34meq of kcal.
