FDA is a federal agency of the United States Department of Health and Human services, one of the United States federal departments. The FDA is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the control and supervision of of food safety, tobacco products, prescription and over the counter pharmaceutical drugs, vaccines, medical devices.

The FDA monitors reports of adverse events and other problems with medical devices and alerts health professionals and the public when needed to ensure proper use of devices and the health and safety of patients.
