Recently, more people have turned to surgery to help them lose weight. One form of weight control surgery involves stapling a portion of the stomach shut, creating a smaller volume. How would such a surgery result in weight loss?

Such a surgery leads to a decrease in the surface area of stomach, thus limiting the area for digestion and production of enzymes. Lesser food is digested, also the capacity of the stomach decreases, the person feels lesser hungry and eats less. This in a time leads to weight loss.
