There are certain diet and health connections among kids and
senior citizens.
kids are in their growing phase. Whatever we will provide them in
this phase , will make their food preferences and food habits.
Their diet should contain every element ranging from macro to
micronutrient. Infants are moslty on semisolid or liquid diets as
their teeth are in erupting phase. In childhood there should be
varied and every colour food to make meal time appealing. Their
immune system is developing and for its proper development ,
balanced diet should be provided including vegetables, fruits,
nuts, grains etc. For strong bones, calcium intake in the form of
dairy products should be optimum. Protein rich foods like meat,
grains, legumes should de made tasty to them as it is the phase of
growth and development.
In elderly, they may have no teeth or losing their tastes, so they may b comfortable with semisolid or liquid diets and it may difficult to chew solid foods for them. Meal time should be made more appealing for them by introducing different tasted to food. In old age, body undergoes many changes like shrinkage of muscle mass, metabolism rate decreases, fat losses so optimum amount of protein and fats should be provided. As they are at risk of developing lifestyle diseases like diabetes so simple carbohydrates should be avoided like sweets, sugar etc. their bones may undergo osteoporosis Nd become brittle so calcium intake needs to be ensured. They are more prone to get sick as their immune system becomes weak so proper balanced diet should be taken .
