Because colchicine is a drug that can inhibit the uncontrolled groth of cell division, it possess the capability of inhibiting the microtubule polymerization by getting binded to protein tubulin thereby leading to microtubule degradation. This in turn causes disruption of mitosis and causes cell death as microtubules makes mitotic spindles and without presence of microtubule the cell cannot divide. Therefore scientists used to treat the material such as onion roots using colchicine in karyotype analysis in cytogenetics.
