Problem 2.9 Spectrum G 100 95 4000 1000 3000 2000 Waverumbers (cm) Problem 2.9 Spectrum H 2000 3000 4000 Waverumbers (cm) 100

It IS complete! The question does not have any formula. You can technically find the structure of the molecule based on the IR spectroscopy chart only.

Answer #1

Spectrum G

Two bands at 2960-2850 indicates C-H stretching of alkane.

4 bands between 1600-1450 indicates C-C stretching of benzene

790 band is for C-H bending in benzene

It must be aromatic compound like toluene.

Since, CH3 group is also indicated.

Spectrum H

It must be an aliphatic alcohol

Strong signal at 3400. Indicates OH stretching for alcohol

Weak bands between 2960-2850 indicates CH stretching of alkanes

Band at 1050 Indicates primary alcohol.

Spectrum I

Strong band at 1560 and 1350 indicates nitro group.

Weak bands at 2960-2850 indicates CH stretching
