COMMUNITY-BASED PROJECT:

The community issue that going to be addressed here is MOOD DISORDER - DEPRESSION

DEPRESSION:

An Alteration in the mood, feeling of sadness, despair, and pessimism followed by loss of interest in day to day activities and the psychosomatic symptoms are observed.

CLINICAL FEATURES:

• Depressed mood
• suicidal thoughts
• Delusion and hallucination
• Loss of appetite
• Loss of weight
• Early morning awakening
• Diurnal variation
• Hopelessness and worthlessness

TREATMENT:

ANTIDEPRESSANT - Serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI), serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRI), Tricyclic antidepressant and Tetracyclic antidepressants.

SEVERE DEPRESSION: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) by stimulation of brain activity

THERAPY - Cognitive behavioral therapy, Interpersonal therapy, Problem-solving therapy.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE:

ALCOHOL DEPENDENCE- The common problem in society associated with mental health problems.

CARE PLAN

Imbalanced nutrition- To help in achieving the proper nutritional status.

Deficient knowledge- Create an awareness program that teaches about depression and alcohol dependence and there harmful effects on health.

Low self-esteem- Make clear that one should not have low self-esteem for alcohol consumption or depression.

OVERVIEW:

Drinking problem and depression seem to be interconnected nowadays, people with little depression find consuming alcohol is the only solution and studies prove that consuming alcohol when depressed prolongs the depression state, 30-40% of alcoholics are affected by depression. Alcohol in the central nervous system slows down the body, As well alcohol also creates problems in career and personal life.

INTERVENTIONS:

Accept of absenteeism and involvement in therapies.

Explain the impairment caused due to the consumption and level of tolerance to the substance.

Health educates regarding genetic predisposition.

Make aware of current life situations and their impacts.

Provide positive feedback

Support the patient and the family member in recovery process and taking self-responsibility in healing process.
