A firm yield versus storage capacity relationship for a proposed reservoir is to be developed based on the monthly streamflows (inflows) at the site during a critical 2-year drought period. The firm yield is the maximum constant water supply diversion rate from the reservoir that can be maintained continuously if the sequence of 24 monthly inflows tabulated below are repeated cyclically forever. Firm yield is a function of reservoir storage capacity, as well as inflows. Compute at least six point on the firm yield versus storage capacity curve. Firm yields for the two extreme of (1) zero storage capacity and (2) an infinitely large reservoir can be easily determined without using an LP model. Determine at least four other addition on the yield-storage curve by developing an LP model. Plot the storage capacity versus firm yield curve.
