This project enables you to learn how to use the effective permissions analysis tool in Windows Server 2003/Server 2003 R2 or Server 2008/Server 2008 R2 to help troubleshoot a permissions conflict.

To use the effective permissions feature:

1. Click Start and click My Computer or Computer. Browse to the file you created in Hands-On Project 10-5, such as JPUtilities.

2. Right-click the folder and click Properties.

3. Click the Security tab.

4. Click the Advanced button in the Properties dialog box.

5. Click the Effective Permissions tab.

6. Click the Select button, click Advanced, click Find Now, and double-click Administrators. Click OK.

7. Scroll through the Effective permissions: box to practice looking for a permissions conflict (see Figure 10-24).

8. Click Cancel and click Cancel again.
