In this project, you use a terminal window in Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard to set permissions on a file.
To set permissions using the command line:
1. With Finder open click Go in the menu bar, click Utilities, and double-click Terminal.
2. At the command prompt, type mkdir, type a space, and type your initial plus test, such as mkdir jptest. Press Enter.
3. At the command prompt, type chmod a+r and the new directory name, such as chmod aþr jptest, and press Enter.
4. View the permissions now associated with the new directory by typing ls -l and pressing Enter (see Figure 10-28).
5. Close the terminal window and any other open windows.
