Mood disorders as the name indicate it is a disorder of the mood that is characterized by the different variations of the mind that lasts for a shorter or longer period of time. The main reason for mood disorders id depression due to family issues, financial issues, exam failure, relationship problems etc.

These problems are mild in some cases and severe in other cases that may leads to serious problems with respect to their health, relation and also at work place. The two key moods involved in mood disorders are mania and depression. There are two types of mood disorders

• Unipolar depressive disorders

• Bipolar depressive disorders

Bipolar disorders as the name indicate the person suffers from both manic and hypo manic at a time. They are followed or preceded by the depression. In bipolar disorders cyclothymic disorder is also seen that is characterized by the cyclic mood changes.

The main causative agents for bipolar disorders are

• Genetic factors that show moderate contribution to unipolar disorders but have high impact on the bipolar disorders.

• In this there will be fluctuations of nor epinephrine or serotonin that causes the mood changes from manic to depression.

• Hormonal regulatory abnormalities that has focused mainly on the HPA (Hypothalamic pituitary adrenal). This HPA shows elevated activity in times of stress that is harmful to the body and leads to hypertension, heart diseases and obesity.

• Biological rhythms like lack of sleep, persistent awakening during the nights and disturbed circadian rhythms can make the depression more severe.

• Psychological factors like the stressful life and low income families are at more risk of mood disorders.
