Mood disorders are mainly result of some failure and loosing the faith on future. So in most times there is no treatment for mild disorder and can be adjusted in some cases. But in some situations the problem become severe and need medication or treatment.

The treatment methods for the mood disorders include

1. Pharmacotherapy: Drugs like antidepressants, mood-stabilizers and antipsychotic drugs are used in the treatment for unipolar and bipolar disorders.

2. Biological treatments: These are considered to be promising treatments for the treatment of mood disorders. These include the electroconvulsive therapy that is given for serious cases and at risk of suicide, transcranial magnetic stimulation, Deep brain stimulation and bright light therapy.

3. Psychotherapy: This includes Cognitive behavioral therapy, behavioral activation treatment, interpersonal treatment and family and martial therapy.

Even though some cases need no treatment and are likely recover within a year these treatment methods are effective in serious cases. They may not completely cure the problem but can reduce the time of recurring and relapse of the disorder. This also reduces the mortality rates that are in high risk of suicide.
