In what ways have contextual forces influenced the development of modern psychology?
Psychology saw an increase, in number of doctorates, laboratories, Universities because of the social changes in the American population. With the influx of huge number of immigrants, the United States saw higher birth rate and made public education, a growth industry.
Many psychologists took advantage, and actively pursued ways, to apply their knowledge and research methods. This led to an emphasis of psychology from laboratory experiments to application of psychology to the teaching industry and learning.
War was another reason that helped shape the future for psychologist by providing job opportunities to psychologists. World War II led to the movement of European psychologist to The United States of America to escape from the Nazi menace.
Another contextual factor is religion, race and gender. For several years, it influenced the lives of practicing psychologists, as it determines who can be employed, and where can they be employed.
