How did Freud attempt to explain mental processes in mechanistic and deterministic terms?

Step-by-Step Solution

Solution 1

It was now a common idea to relate machine with human nature and behavior. Freud also did not remain back seated in applying the mechanistic approach, to his branch of psychology. Like physics and chemistry, Freud applied the same analysis method to understand psychology.

He applied the logic that all human mental processes, could be reduced to natural sciences. He later applied the tools used in physics, to understand scientific psychology. His aim was to determine psychology into defined material particles.

He applied hydraulics, mechanics, and electricity terminologies to psychology as well. Although later, he understood that the tools used in physics could not be completely used to unlock the human personality. Yet, he remained a loyal follower of experimentation and determinism to nurture psychology.

He manipulated the areas in philosophy, where he realized that it could not fit. He realized that the mechanistic approach to understand psychology and human nature had its constraints and limitations.
