Freud had himself said that he suffered from the Oedipus complex. A dream that he had seen as a young boy allowed him to experiment in the world of dreams. He said that his longing for his mother’s passion and fear of his father also affected his personality.

He developed psychoanalysis a branch he used to study his patients, was based upon the sexual experience. He said that sexual encounter, causes lifelong havoc on a person’s personality. He later also added that neurosis was a result of sexual abuse during childhood.

He drew experiences from his own childhood, although he never mentioned abuse from his father, yet he saw in most of his patients, and his own childhood that childhood traumas affect the adult behavior. A person who had a normal sex life would have less chance of suffering from neurotic illness.
