Perceptions of emergency medical residents. The United States currently has over 180 residents in Emergency Medicine (EM). The perceptions of these EM residents on the training of medical students were investigated in the Education in Medicine Journal (June 2012). A key question was if these perceptions changed from the second to the third year of residency. The researchers sampled 10 second- year residents and 10 third-year residents and asked them to respond to a series of statements about the medical students they train. Consider the statement: “There is adequate time for teaching during a shift.” Responses were measured on a 10-point continuous scale where 0 = “strongly disagree” and 10 = “strongly agree.” The data (simulated from information provided in the article) are shown below.
