The City of Fredericksburg water supply is provided by five groundwater wells located approximately 6 km (4 mi) from town, each with a capacity of 56.8 lps (900 gpm).

The well pumps are used to lift the water from the aquifer into a pipeline that discharges into a ground-level storage tank in town. In the past, additional wells have been added to meet increased water demands. However, as the flow increases in the pipeline, the head on the well pumps also increases and discharge from each Well decreases. The objective of the problem is to size a booster pump in the 406-mni (16 in.) pipeline that will lower the head on the well pumps and increase the discharge rate from the well field.

First run the model for existing conditions. Then run the model with a booster pump in line 10. You have a choice of three pumps listed below. Select the pump that will give a discharge of about 252 lps (4,000 gpm).
