Primary succession is the development of plant and animal life in an area without top soil and the development of biotic communities in a previously uninhabited and barren habitat with little or no soil.
Primary succession occurs due to natural disturbances include glaciations, lava flows, and very severe wildfires, and human caused examples include the abandonment of a paved parking lot, or an above – ground explosion of a nuclear weapon.
