Talk about the importance of the Three Domains of Learning Cognitive affective psychomotor
The three domains of learning are-COGNITIVE(THINKING).
AFFECTIVE (EMOTIONS/FEELINGS)
PSYCHOMOTOR(PHYSICAL/KINESTHETIC)
COGNITIVE DOMAIN IMPORTANCE
It aims at developing mental skills and acquisition of knowledge.
Its importance is best understood with the help of its sub domains
1.KNOWLEDGE-includes ability of learner to recall data or information.eg:if we have knowledge a
of any topic then alone we will have ability to recall it when needed.
2.COMPREHENSION-it assesses the ability of learner to understand meaning of what is known .eg: explaining a theory in our own words
3.APPLICATION-this is the use of knowledge in any given situation.
4.ANALYSIS-it is ability to differentiate facts and opinions.
5.SYNTHESIS-ability to integrate different elements and concepts in order to form a sound pattern or structure to help establish a new meaning.
6.EVALUATION-ability to come up with judgement about importance of concepts.eg:ability of a teacher to come up with best teaching method to bring out best out of an average student
COGNITIVE DOMAIN HELPS IN RECALLING THE DATA,TO UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION IN OUR OWN TERMS,INCREASES OUR ABILITY TO USE OUR KNOWLEDGE TO SOLVE A PROBLEM,TO KNOW ABOUT FACTS AND MISCONCEPTIONS,TO SYNTHESISE THE SITUATION AND SELECT THE BEST POSSIBLE AND WISE SOLUTION.
AFFECTIVE DOMAIN IMPORTANCE
It includes feelings emotions and attitude.
sub domains of this to explain its importance are
1.RECEIVING PHENOMENA: ina given situation this helps to create awareness of feelings and emotions and also to it helps to pay attention to a maximum level. eg: listening to a class attentively
2.RESPONDING TO PHENOMENA:after receiving a phenomena the learner starts responding to it.eg:if learner listens to a class effectively,he/she will start participating in the group discussion actively
3.VALUING:ability to see worth of something or ability to express it.this helps the learner to share their views or ideas about different issues.
4.CHARACTERISATION AND ORGANISATION:ability to internalise values and let them control the behaviour of individual.
AFFECTIVE DOMAIN HELPS TO THINK OVER A SITUATION AND RESPOND TO IT PROMPTLY.IT HELPS IN DERIVING TO A CONCLUSION.
PSYCHOMOTOR DOMAIN IMPORTANCE:
IT HELPS IN UTILISING MOTOR SKILLS AND ABILITY TO COORDINATE THEM
its importance can be best explained using sub domains
1.PERCEPTION:ability to apply sensory information to motor activity.perceiving the situation is finished here
2.SET:involves readiness to act upon a situation to overcome it
3.GUIDED RESPONSE:using trial and error methods to resolve a problem..acting on a problrm practically is started here
4.MECHANISM:ability to convert learned response into habitual actions with proficiency and confidence
5.COMPLEX OVERT RESPONSE:ability to perform complex patterns of actions
6.ADAPTATION:ability to modify learned skills to meet special events
7.ORIGINATION:creating new movement patterns for a specific situation
PSYCHOMOTOR DOMAIN HELPS IN UTILISING MOTOR SKILLS TO SOLVE A PROBLEM AND TO GET OVER IT.IT ALSO INCREASES ABILITY TO DECIDE THE CORRECT SOLUTION FOR THE NEXT TIME WE FACE ANY PROBLEM BECAUSE OF ITS TRIAL AND ERROR QUALITY.
CONCLUSION:
learning is an integral part.all the three domains play an important role in any given situation.
cognitive domain helps in acquiring knowledge and developing mental skills.
affective domain helps in accepting the situation and responding to it internally.it helps to organise the situation
psychomotor domain helps in using motor skills.to modify learned skills.to create new skills and to retain it for life time.

The nurse educator at large medical center is preparing patient education materials for several different age groups. The materials will focus on the importance of fingerstick glucose monitoring as the primary method of promoting tight glucose control. The nurse must develop measurable learning objectives from each of the three domains of learning. 1. What is an example of a cognitive learning objective related to this material? 2. What is an example of a psychomotor learning objective related to the material?...
