Child and young people consent for medical treatment:

** People aged 16 or over can consent to their own treatment in certain situation it will not be acceptable..They will be mature enough to decide their own medical treatment, their decision must be respected..it the person does not have the capacity to make decisions their beloved one or care giver can take responsibility for consent.

** Child under 16years can give consent if they have enough intelligence, competencies and understanding about their treatment..other than that parents are responsible for their consent that should be child's mother or father, legal guardian with residence order they can give consent..

** Local authority care giver for the child can give consent.. if parents refusing to give consent then by the court order treatment will be carried out treatment for their child best option..

Difference Between consent and refusal:

** Consent implies acceptance of treatment, but the concept of consent equally valid to refusal of treatment..patient have the right to refuse treatment, even it cause death..consent law accepts patients right right to refuse treatment..consent is for accepting the treatment, refusal is for not accepting the treatment..

** Consent can be given by person or authority people..informed consent is the process of getting consent with the help of assistant when the person is disabled..informed refusal is the process as patient or parents refused to have treatment..consent can be given by the patient who is understanding the treatment completely with full knowledge..

** Altered mental status may not have the ability to consent or refuse the treatment..they have right to refuse end of life care, DNR orders, living wills..there are many reasons for refusing treatment like financial issues and may be religion diffrence like restrictions for particular treatment as per religious rules..but for giving consent there is only reason for their well-being and prevention of disease..
