Using the SPSS software, open the Afrobarometer dataset or the High School Longitudinal Study dataset (whichever you choose) found in the Learning Resources for this week. Based on the dataset you chose, construct a research question that can be answered with a multiple regression analysis. Create a research question with metric variables and one variable that requires dummy coding. Estimate the model and report results. Note: You are expected to perform regression diagnostics and report that as well.

HS LONGITUDINAL STUDY

The reason behindthis study is to screen the move of national samples of youngsters from their secondary school experience through their post-secondary years in the labor force and other adult duties.

With a specific end goal to makemy investigation, I picked one categorical variable,' Teenager thinks science is helpful for regular daily existence'. I have rated the observations as follows:

  1. Strongly agree
  2. Agree
  3. Disagree
  4. Strongly disagree

I also chose another metric variable, “The number of years the high school science teacher has taught science”.

The Nominal Categorical Variable to be:Teenager thinks science is helpful in everyday life.

Data analysis

The histogram plot is unmistakably clear that the number of teachers increases from approximately 1 to 8. The frequency increases to the maximum thereafter decreases. It is affirmed by the box and whisker plot of the given data where the median lies approximately 8-50%. The line chart likewise demonstrates a dip in the curve beginning from year 1 and increases afterward s at around 25 whereby the frequency is greatest.

All these visual displays of information plainly distinguish the greater part of the science teachers as permanent teachers. Thefrequency is very highbetween years 1 to 5 as a certain portion of the teachers may have begun their profession as science teachers in secondary school but had left instantly when they discovered more reasonable occupation in universities or colleges.

Analysis

The visual display shows that most of teenagers do agree that science is useful for everyday life. From the bar graph, approximately 10000 teenagers appreciate science as being useful in everyday life. 4000 strongly agree. A similar confirmation is depicted in the pie chart where 49.41% agrees while 20,33% strongly agrees.

From the study, we can say that teenagers are more likely to choose engineering and science related careers. They know that by choosing this, their problems are going to be addressed.

Descriptive Analysis

Metric Variable

SPSS output

“The number of years the high school science teacher has taught science”. The descriptive analysis of this variable is made as follows:

Case Processing Summary Cases Missing Valid Total Percen N PercentN Percent N Teenager thinks science is useful for! 20032 85

Analysis

The mean of the variable (from descriptive statistics) is 10.33 years. This means a science teacher taught for an average of 10.33 years in high school. The skewness is 0.786(positive). Since the data is skewed, then the median is used to represent the data fully. The median of the years taught by science teachers is 8. This means that 50% of the teachers have more than 8 years of experience. The mode will not be useful I our case for interpretation of our data since the data is quantitative. A standard deviation of 7.885 is quite large. This shows the disparity in the distribution of the years taught by the science teachers. This disparity is further affirmed by kurtosis, which is -0.606.

Categorical Variable

SPSS output

Descriptive Statistics Output is as follows:

Case Processing Summary Cases Missing Valid Total Percen N PercentN Percent N Teenager thinks science is useful for! 20032 85

Mode can represent this data in a better way since it is a categorical variable. The mode, from the previous graph is 2. This means that the teenagers strongly agree. It is observed from the frequency distribution table that 4073(20.3%) teenagers strongly agree that indeed science is useful while 49.4%(9897) agrees. The combination of the two gives more than 50%, that is, 69.7% which implies that many teenagers have it that science is indeed useful for everyday life.

Longitudinal study includes repeated observation over a relatively longer period of time. It is an essential piece of test on life expectancy of people where they are watched for over 10 years or life span. The consequence of the studyis frequently utilized in sociology and psychology to study life occasion all through eras.

High school longitudinal study monitors the change of national specimens of youngsters from their high school experiences through their post-auxiliary years in the work constrain and other grown-up parts. This model uses students as the unit if investigation and tries to recognize the variables in charge of scholastic objective setting of the student. As observed in the metric variable, most science teachers teach for about ten years, Science teachers play a significant role in developing career interests among students. From the analysis, more than 50% of students are interested in science. According to Todd and Ralph Stinebrikner, a good percentage of students (19.8%) opt for science subjects as their major.

As a result of this, we are seeing a drastic change in technological advancement. Students are becoming innovative, coming up with devices that have really made life easier and enjoyable.
