Answer #1

Ordered dose of lovastatin is 30mg PO.

Available dose - lovastatin tablets USP is 10mg and mevacor tablets is 20 mg

A) The nurse should administer lovastatin tablets USP of 10 mg because of the presence of mark USP on medicine . USP is United States Pharmacopeia . It is a non profit organization that tests and reports on the quality of supplements and drugs through its verification program. The marks on the medicine indicates that the ingredients listed on the label are in the declared amount and strength.

B) 3 tablets of lovastatin USP will be given per day .

Because the available dose of lovastatin USP tablet is 10 mg each tablet so, to make 30 mg we have to give 3 tablets of 10 mg to the patient.
