During a health supervision visit for a 5 year old girl, the mother tells you she is worried about her hearing. She has been seen at your clinic since birth. She was the product of a normal pregnancy and delivery. She has had frequent ear infections since the age of 8 months. Six months ago she had a ruptured appendix and was treated with aminoglycoside. She has been fully recovered for 4 months.

a. what is the level of hearing problem that she is assuming ?

what are the treatments that she had taken for recurrent ear infection?

is here any discharges from the ear ?

b. what was the dose of amynoglycosides?

how long was the therapy continued?
is there any signs of early vestebulo choclear involvement present

c. the main side effect of amyinoglycosides are hearing impairment, so when ever administering amyinoglycosides be sure that there lies any alternative for the drug , or else when given carefully watch for all the side effects including ototoxicity

the main plan of action is to identify the level of hearing loss involved

thorough assessment of cranial nerves as well as renal function test because amyinoglycosides my cause renal failure

in extreme cases rehabilitation and hearing aids
