Answer #1

A T4 bacteriophage transfers a random fragment of DNA from one E. coli cell to another E. coli cell. This phenomenon is an example of “C. Transduction”.

These are the type of asexual reproduction.

This prokaryotic reproduction is an binary fission type of reproduction in which the chromosome is replicated ands the resultant prokaryote is an same exact copy of the parental prokaryote. These are of three types and they are:

  1. Bacterial Transduction: Transduction is an process by which the DNA is transferred from one bacterium to another bacterium by an Virus.
  2. Bacterial Transformation: Transformation is an example of direct uptake, incorporation and expression of exogenous genetic material taken from its surroundings.
  3. Bacterial Conjugation: Conjugation is an example of prokaryotic reproduction where the DNA is transferred between the prokaryotes by means of an hairlike appendage found on the surface of the call of many bacteria called as pilus.

Please classify each statement as describing transformation, conjugation, or transduction in bacteria. Bacteria can acquire plasmids from outside the cell. A bacterium that contains an F plasmid connects to a recipient bacterium that lacks an F plasmid with an appendage called a pilus, through which the plasmid is transferred. Some bacterial DNA fragments may be included when new phage particles are assembled. A cell can be treated to make it competent to take up DNA from its environment. When a...
