Organization development’s primary goal is to improve organizational effectiveness and primary intervention is influence on the relationship of individuals and groups to effect an impact on the organization as a system. It is a data-based approach to understanding and diagnosing organizations.
Six phases of the organization development process.
1. Entry - When OD professional consultant agrees on the conditions under which they will work together, determining roles and responsibilities, establishing business terms.and consult to determine the type of OD programme to be developed.
2. Start up- Client team to work together.
3. Diagnosis, Assessment and Feedback- Under this phase, the consultant and client, together identify the problem, collect the data, and focuses on strengths and weaknesses to determine the organizational culture. The assessment focuses on a specific area of interest to the organization.
4. Action Plan and Implementation-Under this phase, plans are developed to set the goals and targets for the organisation and ways to achieve them. Implementation of the action plan includes coaching, training, leadership development, team building, diversity dialogues and conflict resolution.
5. Evaluation and adoption- Evaluation include financial measures such as profitability, return on investment, stakeholder satisfaction. Evaluation is helpful to know whether the plan is correctly done or not and to check the objectives of the intervention were accomplished.
6. Separation –The OD consultant will withdraw from the intervention process which includes transferred skills to the client organization
