The benefits of a gluten-free diet include the fact that; gluten causes intestinal symptoms, even in people who don’t have celiac disease such as (Whiteman, 2018);

  • altered gut function
  • irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • changes in gut microbiome

The risks of gluten free diet include; deficiencies in essential nutrients, such as iron, calcium, fiber, foliate, thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin. Risks of development of cardiovascular disease(Whiteman, 2018).

Thus gluten free is not a healthy alternative for all.
