3. The purpose  to wash the precipitate is to remove these adsorbed ions or other such impurities. When a substance gets precipitated, some ions that combine to form the precipitate get adsorbed/occluded/included on/inside the surface of the precipitate.

Three cause of impurities during precipitation of analyte are

1.Adsorption 2.inclusion 3 occlusionAdsoreffion The surface of appt may have a primary adsanked lager of the lattice on in exces This result in sweface adeouptroInclusion It occurs when ione generally of similar size and charge all entrapped within crycãe lattice when one con can replaOcclusion In ne process mê material which is not part of crystal structure is rather within the cugetal for eg:- Anali metal

gelateneous precipitate require more washing than crystalline precipitate

The washing of precipitate can be done by two ways

a.A precipitate may be washed directly on the filter by using wash water which will contain one ion common to the precipitate which would en hence the solubility of the impurities but at the same time should decrease the solubility of the precipitate .sometime organic impurities are washed with organic solvent

b)A precipitate may be washed by decantation .In decantation, the precipitate is allowed to settle, and the supernatant liquid is poured off ensuring all impurities are removed in the supernatent liquid.Multiples times decantation is done to ensure complete removal of the impurities.

Exercise 2 Separation of a Mixture Based on Acid-Base Properties One purpose of this exercise is to learn how to use a separatory funnel to extract a single component away from other compounds in solution. To do so, we will apply the principles of solubility and acid-base behavior you’re seeing in class. One of the compounds is neutral in the acid-base sense. It has no ability to either donate or accept a proton from an aqueous solution, and will remain...

It's a weak acid strong base titration Experiment 4: Identification of an unknown acid by titration Page 2 of 15 Background In this experiment, you will use both qualitative and quantitative properties to determine an unknown acid's identity and concentration. To do this analysis, you will perform a titration of your unknown acid sample-specifically a potentiometric titration where you use a pH meter and record pH values during the titration, combined with a visual titration using a color indi- cator...

PREPARATION OF PHARMACEUTICALS - Fischer Esterification Reactions Q: Calculate the expected mass of both methyl salicylate and aspirin assuming 100% yield. EXPERIMENT7 PREPARATION OF PHARMACEUTICALS Fischer Esterification Reactions Almost 2500 years ago, physicians such as Hippocrates recommended that patients chew on the bark of the willow to alleviate pain. The active ingredient in willow bark was found to be salicin, a compound made of a molecule of salicyl alcohol bonded to a p-D-glucose molecule. In the stomach, the bond between...
