Answer: PCA pump delivers, an intravenous narcotic analgesic dose which allows the patient to manage their own pain by delivering an IV analgesic dose within preset parameters. PCA help the patient to manage the inadequate pain. This makes reduced nursing workload. Medications maily used for intravenous PCA include hydromorphone or morphine. Nurse should intervene the quality and the quantity milligram per milligram, these drugs are not equivalent. Also informed to the patient about the contraindication such as patients who are cognitively impaired should not be given PCA or those who have any confusion or less mental stability.
