* Remove all jewellers and watch from the hand.

* cut short the nail and remove artificial nails

* Arrange articles needed for hand washing

*wet the hands and wrist area

*Apply soap and with firm rubbing in circular motion do the procedure and continue it for 30 sec.

*Rinse the hands with water towards the fingertips

*Dry the hands with a paper towel

* Replace the articles

*Document the procedure if needed.

OUTCOME/EVALUATION

* After effective hand washing the hands become visibly clean and free from micro organism.

CLIENT EDUCATION

*Educate the patient regarding the importance of hand washing

*Teach the client about the moments of handwashing

* Teach the hand washing techniques and articles needed.

*Teach to perform hand wash when the hands are visibly contaminated

* Educate the patient and visitors to follow hand washing to reduce infections.

POTENTIAL COMPLICATION

*The potential complication by improper hand washing are;

▪Nosocomial infection

▪Airborne disease

▪Noroviruses

▪Hepatitis A

* Follow the moments of hand washing

* Use universal precautions

*Perform effective hand washing techniques

*Teach and encourage others to do proper hand washing
