Description of the procedure :

Eye drops Instillation is dispensing of sterile medication or drug in to the eyes.

Steps including Nursing actions along with Education

• Select and verify the right patient
• Check the order of drug by physician
• Make sure that the room is well ventilated
• Always wash hands before doing any procedure
• Check the medication properly for the label, expiry dates
• Explain the procedure to the patient
• Make the patient to sit with head tilted back
• Ask the patient to look up
• Pull the lowerlid gently and squeeze the medication
• Do not touch the dropper to the other parts to avoid contamination
• Then ask the patient to close the eyes for atleast 30 seconds
• Replace the cap, excess medication over the eyes and face must be cleaned off
• Make the patient to sit in a comfortable position
• Wash hands and record the procedure.

• Glaucoma
• Conjunctivitis
