Sterile gloving..

Sterile procedures are those procedures which is performed to maintain the cleanliness and also to keep the environment free from microorganisms, sterile gloves also act as a barrier between the microbes and the hand.

Indication of sterile gloving...

1. Before coming in contact with the patient's fluids, mucus, broken skin, blood etc.

2. Before performing any surgical procedure in operation theatre.

3. Before carrying out procedure such as wound dressing, central venous catheterization etc.

NURSING INTERVENTION.

1.Pre procedure.

* it is very important to perform hand hygiene before wearing gloves.

* select the right size of glove to carry out procedures.

2. Intra procedure.

* put the gloves packet on the clean surface.

* unpack it and throw the outer most covering.

* inner most covering is sterile from inside.

* To open the innermost cover, touch only the outer part of the inner cover.

* Gloves are folded and you need to touch only the folded part, which is the part of the gloves which will be in contact with the palm not with the fluids.

* Wear gloves first in dominating hand.

* After wearing gloves in dominating hand, take the another glove by putting four fingers in the folded region and don in the other hand.

Following these steps will eradicate the risk of contamination if any.

3. Post procedure.

* first of all loose the fingers of the gloves from non dominating hand by dominating hand.

* Pull the non dominating gloves on the dominating hand.

* put the index finger of non dominating hand under the gloves of dominating hand, and roll the gloves into one another.

* Discard the gloves in the bin.

* Wash your hands using surgical technique.

Outcome/ evaluation.

* It protects from cross contamination between surroundings and the patient.

* it act as a barrier and restrict the entry of microbes from hand to the patient.

* it helps in better recovery of wound.

* it prevents from any further contamination with the contaminated wound.

* it protects health care provider and the patient from cross contamination.

Client education.

* instruct the client to maintain hand hygiene, and also explain why it is important to maintain hand hygiene.

* instruct client not to touch the infected part with non hygienic hands.

* Tell client that maintaining hand hygiene can fasten the recovery of the wounds.

* it prevents open site from further contamination.

* Touching infected/ open part with contaminated hand can increase the chances of more infection.

Potential complication.

* it may cause allergic reaction, as it is made up up of various materials such as rubber, and latex.

* powder that is used in gloves may cause skin irritation.

* sharp material like needles and scissors can cause tear and further can lead to infection.

Nursing intervention.

1. Wash hands before carrying out any surgical procedure.

2. Explain the procedure to the patient to maintain interpersonal relationship.

3. Wear gloves following proper techniques.

4. Avoid any tear in the gloves.

5. Avoid touching non sterile things with sterile hand and sterile gloves.

6. Perform the procedure by following aseptic techniques.

7.After completion of the procedure do after care of the articles and discard the gloves in the bin.
