Range of motion:

Description of skills:

The range of motion helps to improve the movement of joints in patients whose activities are limited. It prevents joint contractures.

Indications:

  • Limitation in movement.
  • Pain in joints
  • Restricted movement
  • Muscle spasms
  • Injury
  • fail to maintain normal posture.
  • To improve strengthening exercises.

Nursing Interventions:

Pre:

  • Place the person in a comfortable position.
  • Maintain good posture.
  • Use good body mechanics.

Intra:

  • Position a joint in a proper place.
  • Slowly move the joint to the point of resistance.
  • Apply pressure if there is a muscle spasm.
  • Move the joint until the final point of resistance.

Post:

  • Repeat the exercise every 2 hours.
  • Evaluate the patient energy level.
  • plan the exercises based on the activity intolerance.

Outcomes/Evaluation:

  • The patient can ambulate.
